T-shirt Design: Competition - March 31, 2009
Right gang- here it is, as promised...
We're teaming up with our pals over at Bang Bang T-shirts to
whip up a tasty little contest for those of you who are creatively
inclined and up for winning some seriously cool prizes!
Not only will the winning design be printed, it will be 1 of 5 very
limited, hand numbered T-shirts to mark the upcoming
launch of Scooter & Jinx. If all that wasn't enough, your design
will sit along side some of the UK's hottest designers at work,
so that that doesn't suck...
Check out the full details and deadline over at the Bang Bang T-shirts site.

We're pretty psyched about the whole thing and we think you will be too,
so get scribbling, make us look good and you'll be handsomely rewarded
for it!
Get on it!
Until next time, be good!

T-shirt Design: Call to Designers - March 4, 2009
We couldn't be more excited to announce that we're planning to make a massive splash in Spring/Summer 09? and launch the store, the website and the Scooter & Jinx brand onto the scene!
We're looking to mark this momentous occasion by commissioning a series of 5 hand-numbered, limited edition, designer t-shirts and this is where you guys come in. Collaborative projects are very much a part of our ethos and the way we intend to move forward with many of the plans we have for the coming year. That said, in the spirit of collaboration, we want you to make us look good and let us make a big deal of the amazing work you do! We're thinking of it as a way share our excitement and make some great friends and partners in crime along the way!
The remit is basic, the design has to be Scooter & Jinx branded, though not necessarily with our logo (which we will make available upon request)- just our name. The creative vision is yours to run with in terms of type face and graphics, but we want you to do what you do best and slap your individual flavor all over it and leave the rest to us. The only influence we want to have over your design is to emphasize who we are, what we do, and what inspires us. Let these few things be your guide:
Who are we and what do we do?
Well... Scooter & Jinx is a retailer and gallery that specializes in vinyl and custom art toys, graphic/urban art, apparel and all manner of eclectic artist-designed collectibles. We're going to be selling and exhibiting the most unique and desirable goodies that we can get our mitts on.
What inspires us?
In a word, Fun! We're a lil' bit gangsta, a lil' bit geek. We love robots. We also dig ninjas, grafitti, spaceships, video games, crazy/miniature golf, pinball, most things about the 80's and we think that 12? records and casio beats are pretty awesome. We'll never say no to a good cup of tea and we think that puppies RULE.
So that's it! We realise you're bound to have questions, but this was to give you an idea of what we're looking for and more importantly to start a conversation. The interest in this has been overwhelming so far and that's even before it was a full blown idea, so we're psyched to see what you kids come up with!
We've got some seriously cool plans for the packaging and finishing details, these are going to be tight, so get scribbling and get in touch with any questions or ideas you might have, we can't wait to hear from you!

Huck Gee: Unfortunate Sun - November 9, 2008
Things have been hectic for the past couple of weeks, and there have been all sorts of rumblings, happenings and goings on. It's no secret that last week was also a busy week for Huck Gee.
The Kidrobot release of the 'Insane' Dunny literally sold out in a matter of seconds- hats off to those of you with cat-like reflexes in your 'add item to cart/checkout' finger, you're all HARDCORE! For those of you that weren't so lucky, BUMMER!!! We know the pain of missing out all too well.
A few weeks back (17/10/08) Huck released the Red Hand Gang, raku print 'Sunrise', another gold dust item- vanished in under a minute! The next in the Gold Life series, 'Moonrise Rooftops' was released on Halloween and in an instant, was gone. We were desperate to get our hands on those prints and with only 80 copies of each, we knew we needed to have a plan of action. So we synchronized our watches, we phoned and texted a count down every hour for 72 hrs leading up to the releases. These were to be golden moments in the legacy of S&J, we wanted the walls of our humble little home to proudly boast this pair of prints for your benefit, as much as our own.

Unfortunately, on the day we weren't so lucky. 'Sunrise' came and went without us, and I was heartbroken.
Fear not, dear friend it isn't all bad. We're not so easily dashed and we were determined to seize our next golden opportunity- so with military tactics, we managed to get our hands on 'Moonrise Rooftops'! The silver lining...
We feel fortunate to have it and promise it will take pride of place in the shop, for all to see. So make sure to have a nose around and look for it when you stop in, or just say 'Hello' and ask, it will probably be right under your nose!
Until next time- be good

Mock The Vote - October 18, 2008
Just a quick drop-in with something timely and topical.
Back in September John Kricfalusi (creator of Ren and Stimpy) teamed up with ReelFX to release what could be, in my estimation, some of the best non-verbal commentary regarding our Presidential hopefuls. It helps that as a Canadian, he benefits from that 'outside looking in' perspective. Real Genius!!
These weren't much of a blip on my radar at the time, as it just isn't my thing to get political. Recently I've come to see and appreciate them in a whole new light.
(It might be worth mentioning that there was also a Hillary Clinton one, but we all know that's irrelevant.)
John McCain rides in on a war mongering double-talk express of grenades, rifles and warheads. Realistic deathly pale skin tone, too!

Rub BARACK OBAMA's magical golden podium for an instant dose of hope and change!

Tiny Empire Made of Plastic - October 16, 2008
Well here it is, one, in a series of great big steps we'll be taking over the coming months to bring you into the world of Scooter & Jinx. A world of designer toys, art and collectibles where the prevailing themes are sweet and sinister with a wicked sense of humor.
Scooter & Jinx is the product of a late night conversation that covered a flurry of stuff, from a love of all things Kozik to our aversion to the 9-5 grind. We connected all the dots in between and from there we cooked up a crazy little plan, so crazy it just might work.
Much of my career has been about helping musicians and artists find ways to bring their ideas to life and my partner in crime has a background in film, media and camera work.
We are both in close contact with our inner geek and this is our way of indulging that bit of ourselves which remains suspended in adolescence.
We're design junkies and culture vultures influenced by all of the things you might expect: graffiti, design, music, film, fashion, video games, bad tv and absolutely everything wrong about the 80's.
Which of us is which probably isn't important, as a little bit of Scooter and Jinx lives in all of us...
While we're working hard building our tiny empire we'll be sure to let you know how it's all taking shape. The website and shop is under construction and I can hear them hammering out code at break-neck speed in the next room, even as I write.
Here's what we're most excited about to date: our HQ, our home, our playhouse. It doesn't look much with all the cupboards bare, but I promise you, piles of dunnies, munnies, labbits and qee-a few robots and some naughty little monsters will liven it right up.
We hope to kit the place out and fling open the doors to welcome you all sooner rather than later, and when the day comes- you'll be the first to know.

In the mean time, we've got a few monster challenges to tackle, top of the list is how to magic the cash out of thin air to make it all happen, so watch this space. Be sure to come back, often, as this things picks up pace we'll need someone to share all the exciting news with and when things aren't going according to plan we'll need well wishes and bright ideas, and you can leave those at info@scooterandjinx.com.
So for now you kids be good, take care and we'll catch you in the next episode.
